Lil Bayou Band
Mark Babin

Lead Vocalist/Guitar
Mark is a cofounding member of Lil Bayou Band  from St. Amant LA. His classic swamp pop voice is second to none and the main reason people truly love this group.

Steve Smith

Lead Guitar/Vocals
Steve's is a fantastic lead guitar player and we are fortunate to have him; his vocal talents easily match that of his sting instrument.

Dewey Gautreau

6 Sting Bass
Dewey is truly a genius and anchors Lil Bayou with perfection; his understanding of bass guitar, and melodic lines is just light years beyond anyone I have heard. His sound alone sets our group apart from other swamp pop groups.

Mike Weeks

Saxophone/Accordian/Hammond B3/Keyboard/Trumpet/Clarinet/Flute/Vocals

Mike Weeks is one of the finest, most diversified saxophonist around, and his skills on accordian, Hammond B3, vocals, and other instruments, add a very unique flavor to Lil Bayou Band's sound; you just never know which instrument he will be playing at any time.

Mike began his professional saxophone career at the age of 16, playing big band jazz by day, and swamp pop at night with many of the local bands you know. His youth was highlighted at age 17, when his jazz group recieved national recognition, and was invited to New York's Carnagie Hall to perform with the Count Basie Orchestra.

After completing his saxophone performance, and jazz  studies, he continued to perform with local groups, and later toured with Rock-N-Roll Hall of Famers "The Coasters" throughout the Southeast US. He has performed with many national acts including The Drifters, BJ Thomas, Country Music Legend Clay Walker, Gene Chandler, The Shirelle's, Barbara Harris, The Toys, The Tokens, Sha Na Na, and many more.

His tenor sax sound is influenced by King Curtis, Michael Brecker and Lenny Picket. His alto sax sound is influenced by Cannonball Adderley, David Sanborn and Gerald Albright.

Mike teaches saxophone privately and as clinician, as well as piano, and voice (vocal coach). He arranges charts for big bands, and horn bands worldwide, and co-founded, and directed the LP Jazz Ensemble. Presently, he is working on a saxophone instruction book for advanced students, as well as his first solo CD.

Ed Wattigney

Ed Wattigney is a Hammond, Louisiana native, who's passion for performing was inspired by his parents at a very young age. Both parents were Southeastern Louisiana University Music Performance Majors, as well as professional musicians; his father continues, to this day, performing trumpet with "The Dominos," as well as many other local and regional acts.

His passion for performing might have originated with his musical family, but it was "RUSH" drummer Neil Peart, along with "Led Zeppelin" drummer John Bonham that inspired Ed to pick up his first pair of drum sticks over 20 years ago and never look back. Originally self-taught, he played in pop and rock bands of varying styles in his youth. It was during this time that Ed realized that he needed to take the study of percussion more seriously, which lead him to study the styles of legendary Jazz percussionists like Gene Krupa, Buddy Rich, Max Roach and Chick Webb and many more. During this time he developed his signature sound, which blends perfectly in any genre ranging from Swamp Pop to Rock to Jazz/Fusion bands.

Although Ed's drumming is centered primarily in rock/variety, his passion for all genres and styles of music gives him an edge. He is best known for his versatility in a wide variety of musical settings. Whether he is playing jazz standards, kicking a swamp pop band, or laying down a tight funky groove for a pop or rock tune, his greatest satisfaction comes from creating a vibe in the music and in helping to make the tune groove.

Over the 20 plus years of studying percussion and mentoring young musicians, Ed has performed with many local and regional groups/artists such as Leauxco, Hardly Polite, Heather and the Hotrods, Marty Huughes, as well as our very own Mike Weeks; he also donates much of his time to charity events when his talents will help a good cause.

As you can see, we are very proud to have Ed with Lil Bayou Band; we can't wait for you to hear what his sound brings to our group.
